We are bummed to have our time experiencing Madrid cut short because Macy is sick. I’m sure keeping her out until midnight for tapas last night didn’t help any (but all the locals do it with their kids so it seemed normal!) So… this picture pretty much sums up our last day in Madrid.
The second bummer was having to move out of our apartment first thing in the morning (with Macy running a 102 degree fever). There was a plumbing leak in our first apartment, so we were moved to a more touristy area just outside the Plaza Mayor. At least it was a larger apartment! We spent the day catching up online, making runs to the market for watermelon (for Macy) and paella (for us),and watching life go by on the sidewalk cafes below. At least we overlooked the famous San Gines chocolate café where we had eaten churros with chocolate! We kept the doors to our balcony open and let the breeze and sounds of the city float in.
Antsy to see more of the city, Bobby walked to Buen Retiro Park. It is a massive green space in the middle of the posh area of Madrid. Families, couples, and friends fill picnic blankets on the grass, while kids play nearby. Couples paddle small boats around a lake in the middle of the park.
I was sad to miss a day where we could have seen Flamenco or another part of the city (and Bobby was sad to miss the possibility of a bullfight), but I’m sure we’ll return to Madrid someday… its off to Costa Brava in the morning!
