Our new home in Costa Brava

We arrive in Costa Brava, with breathtaking views, and we can’t believe this house we have rented. Blew. Me. Away. These pictures don’t do it justice.

This home belongs to a man named Oscar, who grew up in this house with his parents and grandparents. His mom still lives next door. The house bears a date of 1854, but Oscar believes that 1854 was simply the year of a reconstruction on the house. He believes the original home was built closer to 1700, since the house right across the street bears the date 1709.  This house is three levels, and it is obvious that each level was an addition. The bottom floor looks like a home of old with 2 rooms and no windows, complete with an iron bar closing the door that now leads up to the next level. The second level has 3 bedrooms, one leading into another, and a large bathroom that looks like it could have been something very different in the past. The third floor is a long shape, and houses a second kitchen, sitting area, and a relatively recently constructed sleeping loft. Oscar said that his grandparents once lived on the third level while the rest of them lived on the bottom 2 floors.

The best part is the patio on the third level, which overlooks the hills and shares the branches of a fig tree with the neighbor. Everywhere I turn, I find another nook that I love. The entire thing embodies charm. I’m so excited to finally settle into a place for the next 24 days, as living out of a suitcase and repacking it every few days is not so fun.
